East Bay University Receives $50M Donation From Philanthropist
The donation is the largest the university has received in its 68-year history.
HAYWARD, CA — An East Bay university has received a record-setting donation from billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
Scott donated $50 million to Cal State East Bay, the most in the university's 68-year history, according to the university's president, Cathy Sandeem
Cal State East Bay President Cathy Sandeen thanked Scott through a social media post on Thursday. Sandeen, in the post, said the donation was transformational and would help the institution grow further.

"I’m extremely proud of how far we’ve come together — elevating our visibility, strengthening our story, and staying centered on our students and the vibrant East Bay region we serve," Sandeen said. "This grant ensures this mission will continue now and far into the future."
It's unclear yet what the donation will be used for. Sandeen told the East Bay Times that a framework of what the donation will be used for will be shared in the near future.

Scott is the former wife of Jeff Bezos. She became one of the wealthiest people in the world following her divorce, and has been known to donate to education and social issues causes.
