Felon With Long Criminal Record Arrested For Commercial Burglary: FPD

Prior convictions include violent crimes, according to the Fremont Police Dept.

FREMONT, CA — A Fremont man with a long criminal history and outstanding warrants was arrested for burglary and vandalism at a home improvement store. Police recovered some of the stolen items, according to police.

The burglary happened at around 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 16. Surveillance video captured the suspect shattering a glass door to gain entry to the store and using a lumber cart to steal several thousand dollars worth of power tools.

The suspect then fled the store by shattering another glass door, police said.

When the store manager discovered the burglary, it was reported to Fremont Police. The investigating officer sent an information bulletin containing the suspect’s photo to other members of the police department. Several patrol officers from the day shift recognized the suspect from a previous contact.

At approximately 9:15 a.m. that same day, officers located the suspect on Christy Street. Jorge Palacios, 30 years old, of Fremont, was positively identified as the suspect in the burglary.

Police arrested Palacios on suspicion of the burglary and vandalism along with two outstanding arrest warrants for a parole violation and vandalism.

Fremont Police say that officers recovered many of the stolen power tools, which were later returned to the home improvement store.

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Palacios with Penal Code 459 – Burglary, second degree.

Palacios has previous convictions for possession of a firearm by a felon, domestic violence battery, burglary, grand theft from a person, grand theft, petty theft, and vandalism.
