Fremont Increases Patrols For Holiday Enforcement
More than 1,100 people died nationwide in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes in December 2021.
FREMONT, CA — The Fremont Police Department began increased patrols on Wednesday to deal with an annual uptick in holiday season drunk driving. The department is encouraging residents to have a "Go Safely" Game Plan as part of the National "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" Enforcement Campaign.
The game plan entails scheduling a ride or designating a sober driver if you plan to consume alcohol.
"Impaired driving isn’t just dangerous, it’s illegal," Fremont Police Lt. Ramin Mahboobi said. "Let’s make this a joyful and safe holiday season for everyone on the road. This enforcement period allows us to get the message out that it is essential to act responsibly and plan a sober ride home."
The department points out that in December 2021 alone, 1,013 people were killed in the U.S. in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In addition to alcohol, marijuana, prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may also cause impairment. Do your research and understand how certain drugs may affect your driving ability.
