Fremont Man Accused Of Home Invasion Before Death
Investigators believe a stolen vehicle ran out of gas on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge where the driver was fatally struck.
FREMONT, CA — A suspect who was struck and killed by a vehicle on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge early Wednesday morning had allegedly just carried out a home invasion in Half Moon Bay before being hit on the bridge, according to authorities.
Eric Jaeger, a 31-year-old Fremont resident, was identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as the pedestrian who died after being struck west of the toll plaza in the eastbound lanes of the bridge.
Jaeger was suspected of a possible residential break-in in Half Moon Bay in the area of River Oaks and Winged Foot roads, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, which provides police services in Half Moon Bay.

The victims said that someone gained access to their residence, stole their white Ford, and was last seen driving towards state Highway 1. As deputies arrived at the scene, the vehicle was located traveling north on Highway 1. Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but Jaeger failed to yield and a pursuit began.
San Mateo police picked up the pursuit on eastbound state Highway 92 but lost sight of the vehicle near Edgewater Boulevard. Minutes later, reports came in about a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian on the bridge at 4:32 a.m., and the white Ford was found at the scene, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Investigators said the Ford may have run out of gas and Jaeger then fled on foot and was struck by a passing vehicle, according to the CHP.
The collision initially blocked all eastbound lanes on the bridge. All lanes had reopened by shortly before 7:45 a.m.
