Fremont Man Pleads Guilty, Could Spend A Decade In Prison

The felon was arrested in Fremont on April 2, in Santa Clara County on April 16, and in San Leandro on May 15 on a federal warrant.

FREMONT, CA — A Fremont man pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Oakland to being a felon in possession of a loaded gun and faces up to 10 years in prison, federal prosecutors said.

Kristopher Sylvester, 53, was arrested April 2 in Fremont after he was allegedly linked to a March 26 commercial burglary at a Fremont rental car business.

Prosecutors said he admitted to having a Ruger handgun and eight rounds of ammunition with him when he was arrested. Sylvester was arrested again April 16, in Santa Clara County. He admitted that when he was arrested, he had a stolen Ford Mustang from a San Jose rental car business and had a 9mm handgun and ammunition with him.

Sylvester was arrested a third time on May 15 in San Leandro on a federal warrant that stemmed from his April 2 arrest. Sylvester admitted to having another 9mm handgun and ammunition.

As part of his admissions, he said that two of the handguns were manufactured outside of California.

Prosecutors said Sylvester knew when he was arrested April 2 that he had multiple prior felony convictions. Sylvester is being held in Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 8, in Oakland.
