Fremont Police: Driver Injured in Car Crash at Center Divider, Shears 2 Trees
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to police officials

A 19-year-old San Jose man is expected to survive after he sped his vehicle, crashed into a center divider and sheared two trees in Fremont early this morning, a police sergeant said. Around 1:30 a.m., the man was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Passat north at about 80 mph on Mission Boulevard toward Union City from Niles Canyon where he veered to the center divider near Sullivan Underpass, Fremont police Sgt. Tony Tassano said.
Two trees, one that measured 12 inches in diameter, were sheared by the impact of the crash, Tassano said. The vehicle came to rest on the center divider, he said. The man was transported to a hospital to be treated for broken bones to his lower back, a concussion and laceration to his head, according to Tassano.
No one else was inside the car, Tassano said. Police have not determined why the man drove his car into the center divider, the sergeant said. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, he said. The roadway was closed until about 9 a.m. when crews cleared the scene, police said.
