Alameda Firefighters are teaming up once again with the Alameda Education Association to help raise money for youth in the City of Alameda and in Alameda County who have been displaced or have been victims of human trafficking.

This is the third year for the popular crab feed fundraiser, according to Alameda Firefighter Kara Schelin.

“We had 230 people attend last year and we are hoping for 300 this year,” Schelin said.

Schelin says the fundraiser will benefit both the Alameda Family Services Dreamcatchers program and the Alameda Point Collaborative Youth Education Program, which helps kids in the area who truly need the most support.

“This is a wonderful program that needs a lot of funding,” Schelin said. “It is all focused on youth.”

According to Schelin, the Dreamcatchers shelter is currently limited to eight beds and some of the proceeds of this event will go toward trying to expand the bed capacity into the building next door to accommodate more kids at one time.

The event is scheduled for March 21 at 6 p.m. at the Albert H. Dewitt Officers Club located at 641 West Redline Avenue in Alameda.

“We will have a DJ, raffle, silent auction and games,” Schelin said. “It is a fun fundraiser.” Click here to buy tickets.
