DUI Checkpoint Underway In Fremont
Police are checking for drunk or drugged drivers, along with valid driver's licenses.

FREMONT, CA — The Fremont Police Department is conducting a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint right now. zit got underway at 8 p.m. and will continue to 2 a.m.
Officers are looking for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Officers are also checking drivers for proper licensing.
Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail time, their driver's license suspended, and insurance hikes, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

According to the police department, the deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough.

Funding for this checkpoint is from a grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Remember, a driver allegedly under the influence of medication is charged in the death of a pedestrian in Fremont in December.
