Fremont Police Unveils New Educational Webpage For Teens

"We heard clearly from our community that they want us to connect with young people in ways that feel welcoming and relevant," police said.

FREMONT, CA — The Fremont Police Department has unveiled a new webpage to educate children about the dangers they may face.

The new "Know Your Stuff!" webpage was designed as part of the department's efforts to engage more with teens. The site brings together information for teens using "youth-focused visuals and language. This, police hope, will encourage teens to engage meaningfully with safety information.

Featuring comic-book-style drawings and taking inspiration from Pokémon, the site tries to appeal more to teens and push them to get to know their school's resource officer.

There's "Gym Leader Sergeant Hamblin" and other real school resource officers at Fremont schools featured as Pokémon cards. Clicking on the "learn more" option takes users to the Fremont Police Department's school resource officer information website.

"We heard clearly from our community that they want us to connect with young people in ways that feel welcoming and relevant," FPD Public Affairs Manager Amy Gee told Patch. "By designing a site that looks and sounds like it was made for teens, we’re creating a space where they’ll actually spend time, learn, and share safety information with friends."
