New Tax Credit
A new tax credit for businesses that had to lay off employees and/or dramatically reduce their work schedules and are now rehiring those employees, hiring new employees, and/or increasing their hours.
This Tax Bill (SB1447) also known as the “Main Street Hiring Credit” has a limited amount of funds available. For taxpayers to be eligible, they must reserve the credit which is taken on a first come, first serve basis starting December 1, 2020 and ending January 15, 2021 or when the $100 million credit allocation is reached. The credit is equal to $1,000 per qualified employee, up to $100,000 for each small business employer. SB 1447 tax credit is available for the 2020 tax year only that allows a small business hiring credit against California state income taxes or sales and use taxes to certain California qualified small business employers that receive a tentative credit reservation. The state is requesting credit reservation from the interested businesses now.

State of California $500 Million for New COVID Relief Grant for Small Business
The Governor announced the creation of a $500 million COVID Relief Grant administered by the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) at the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development for small businesses that have been impacted by COVID and the health and safety restrictions. Funds would be awarded to selected intermediaries with established networks of Community Development Financial Institutions to distribute relief through grants of up to $25,000 to underserved micro and small businesses throughout the state by early 2021. Non-profits would also be eligible for these grants. CalOSBA is establishing the program and will make it available to small businesses as soon as possible.
