Homeless Man Arrested: Arson, Vandalism In Fremont, Police Say
Police say the fires were set 3 days after the man was released from jail on "zero bail" guidelines. The previous charges: arson.

FREMONT, CA — Fremont Police arrested 39-year-old Abdulfatah Idris on suspicion of arson after multiple fires were set near Interstate Highway 680 and Mission Boulevard South last Wednesday. Witnesses pointed out Idris to officers.
Police say that he has just been released from jail three days earlier on similar charges.
Police say that Idris broke a business’s window with a rock at the Fremont Hub earlier in the day. On Thursday, he was booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of felony arson and felony vandalism charges.

The previous Sunday, Idris was arrested by officers after witnesses say he set 3 fires along Mowry Avenue. Although he was booked into Santa Rita Jail, he was released the following day under “zero bail” guidelines that seek to empty the jail because of coronavirus.
The Judicial Council of California voted to the end the “zero bail” guidelines, but the Alameda County Superior Court advised agencies that they had implemented their own version of “zero bail” guidelines.

Since the "zero bail" guidelines were issued, Fremont Police have made numerous theft "arrests" that amount to issuing a citation to appear in court, and then sending the accused on their way.
