Machete Attack Victim: Fundraiser Underway

FREMONT, CA — The Fremont man attacked with a machete on Sunday has been identified in an online fundraiser as Jack Mosley. According to the GoFundMe page, he underwent surgery on Sunday for injuries.

According to the fundraiser, "There were too many lacerations all over his head, face and body for the doctors to count, and he has over 1,000 staples in his face and body, as well as stitches."

Mosley's eye was also cut. "The Ophthalmologist said that his eye was cut right down the middle and is one of the worst cases she'd seen, and most likely, he will not be able to see out of his left eye again."

The victim had defensive wounded to his arm and hand. "He will have surgery on his left hand at the end of the week. His fingers were almost completely severed, but he still has blood flow in his hand, so that is a hopeful sign."

According to police, Mosley was attacked by a family member who fled the scene before police arrived. The suspect, 28-year-old Zekria Joyaa of Fremont, was arrested later that day in Union City.

The GoFundMe story says that Mosley is a widower who cares for his adult daughter Elizabeth, who has Down Syndrome. She was reportedly in the home at the time of the attack.
