Niles Canyon Road Opens Again
The road was closed twice on Monday as saturated mountainsides release rocks and mudslides.

FREMONT, CA — Niles Canyon Road is currently open.
It was closed Monday afternoon, the second time in one day that it was blocked off. The second closure was due to falling boulders, according to the Fremont Police Department. Caltrans responded with heavy equipment to clear the boulders. There were no wrecks or injuries reported as a result of the boulders, police say.
The cleanup is expected to lasted into the evening commute. "We expect I-680 will experience heavy back-ups and commuters will cut through our City to reach the East Bay," police warned. "Commuters coming from the Dumbarton Bridge are encouraged to travel north I-880 to 238/580 in Castro Valley to avoid Mission Boulevard and heavy delays in Fremont."
