Man Killed On I-880 In Fremont ID'd

The Friday morning crash forced the closure of all northbound lanes at the start of the commute.

FREMONT, CA — A pedestrian killed in the northbound lanes of I-880 in Fremont Friday morning has been identified as 28-year-old Alejandro Diaz of Fairfield. The crash happened in the vicinity of the Tesla factory at 3:36 a.m.

According to the official collision report signed by CHP Officer Manuel Leal, several callers reported a pedestrian on the freeway. Diaz was hit by several vehicles, but none stopped. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP is asking for the public’s help to try and identify any of the drivers who may have been involved or witnessed this collision.

Leal did not say why Diaz was on the freeway.

All northbound traffic was diverted off I-880 while investigators were at the scene.
