Person Critically Injured In Suspected Drug Lab Explosion: Police

The explosion happened Tuesday morning at a housing complex. Hazardous materials from the suspected drug lab are being cleaned up.

FREMONT, CA — One person is hospitalized with critical injuries following a suspected drug lab explosion at a residence in the 37000 block of Waverly Terrace, near Quarry Lakes Regional Recreational Area.

The explosion was reported at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, according to the PulsePoint app.

When Fremont Police and Fire personnel arrived, the occupants of the unit had already left. Later, the victim checked themself into a local hospital

Several units in the complex where the explosion happened were evacuated. Investigators quickly pinpointed the cause of the explosion as a possible drug lab.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Task Force have taken over the investigation and remain at the scene.

Police, fire, and clean up crews for the hazardous materials are expected to remain in the area for some time.
