
FREMONT, CA — If you're planning on celebrating this weekend, line up a designated driver, take a cab or use ride-sharing.
The Fremont Police Department will conduct a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint this Sunday August 20, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The Fremont Police Department reminds drivers that a DUI can result in jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

"The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes," the department reports.
A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is paying for the cost of the checkpoint.
