Gravel mined from the quarries in the 1800s was used to build the transcontinental railroad. Now, they are part of a beautiful park.

FREMONT, CA — Humberto Ruiz captured this lovely sunset over Quarry Lakes. Gravel mined from the quarries in the 1800s was used to build the transcontinental railroad. If you've ridden the Niles Canyon Railway, you know that it is a segment of the transcontinental railroad.
If you would like to visit Quarry Lakes Regional Park, they offer boating, fishing, hiking, biking and swimming.
If you have an awesome photo of nature, breath-taking scenery, kids caught being kids, a pet doing something funny or something unusual you happen to catch with your camera, we’d love to feature it on Patch.
