SWAT Teams Arrest Man In Fremont Shooting

The gunman escaped on I-25 —​​ presumably roaring past hundreds of innocent people on the freeway all the way to San Leandro.

FREMONT, CA — Fremont and San Leandro SWAT teams arrested a suspect Thursday in connection with a shooting that happened in Fremont on Aug. 27. Christopher Andrews, 32, of San Leandro, was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported in the shooting.

The arrest was made without incident at a home in the 2000 block of Benedict Drive in San Leandro just before 10 a.m.

Back on Aug. 27, a witness called 911 to report hearing shots fired from a vehicle in the area of Stevenson Boulevard and Farwell Drive. The witness told dispatchers that someone in a dark colored car waived a gun out the window at the people in a second vehicle. Both took off and headed northbound on I-880.

Officers investigated and found shell casings in the parking lot of a restaurant. Combining video evidence and witness statements, officers focused on Andrews.

Police are serving additional search warrants as they continue to actively investigate the case.

A motive has not been announced.
