5 Things You Should Know for the Holidays
Check out the art, religious celebrations, music and ice skating, all in our community.
1)Β You might see Gilroy resident Gorden Gibson and his guitar around town during the holidays. On Mondays and Fridays this monthβexcept this coming Mondayβheβll be out playing music with theΒ Salvation Armyβs red kettle bell ringers. You can hear him at noon at Nob Hill Foods on First Street and 1 p.m. across the street at Safeway on Dec. 16, 19 and 23. βI suppose a lot of people will say, βHey, this is better than a bell,β he says, promising to play recognizable tunes like βWe Three Kingsβ and βSilver Bells.β
2) Gilroy artist JoAne Perez Robinson Fine will showcase her art this weekend, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Fortino Winery, 4525 Hecker Pass Hwy. Now through Dec. 23, she also has a collection of her mini paintings, cards and larger works at the Gilroy Center for the Arts, at the corner of Seventh and Monterey streets.Β
3)Β If you live in Gilroy close to St. Mary Parish on First Street, you definitely understand the importance of Dec. 12 to the large Catholic community here. The Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration will begin with a gathering at 10th and Eigleberry streets at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The procession will head to the parish, where there will be Mass at 2 p.m., followed by Noche Guadalupana in the gym at 6:30 p.m., a serenade at 11 p.m. and Mariachi Mass at midnight. On Monday, a Mariachi Mass will take place at 7 p.m., with a reception to follow. Β

4) How about a holiday party, complete with ice, skates, hot chocolate and cookies? Gilroy GardensΒ will book private ice-skating parties through the end of the month. The family theme park will allow you to reserve two hours of private skating time for your group for $20 person (or $35 per person for four hours).Β The skates and goodies are part of the package. Β
5)Β Thereβs nothing like a high school choir to get you in the holiday spirit. The Gilroy and Christopher high school choirs will perform a combined Winter Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Gilroy High School Cafeteria. Tickets are $5 donations.
