Morgan Hill police and local California Highway Patrol officers will escort the Special Olympics torch, known as the "Flame of Hope", from Gilroy to Morgan Hill on Wednesday.
Officers will take turns escorting the torch along its three mile journey that starts at 10 a.m. at E. Middle Avenue and Monterey Road and concludes at Cochran Road in Morgan Hill, according to Jaimie Rios, spokesman for the Morgan Hill area CHP.
Officers from the Gilroy Police Department were going to participate in the torch run, but will no longer be able to because of "other department commitments" on Wednesday, GPD Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said.
