Become an aviation mechanic with certification in powerplant or airframe maintenance! this 2-year program gets your ready for a great career! Classes ore $36 per unit and financial aid is available

Have you ever thought about fixing airplanes?

Apply now for fall admission to the Gavilan College Aviation Maintenance program.  The aviation program is accredited by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and leads to a Certificate of Achievement (42-43 units) or an Associate of Science degree (70 units) for completion of the two-year program. The FAA requires a minimum of 1,150 hours of instruction, which will include both academic study and shop experience, to qualify for either an airframe license or a powerplant license. 1,900 hours are required to qualify for both, and students must pass the FAA Mechanics Examination to receive a license. Skills taught in this program also prepare graduates fro employment in fields such as welding, sheet metal, electrical systems, hydraulics, fuel systems, and automotive repair.

Fall aviation classes start August 10 (classes in all other disciplines start August 31.) Open registration is now in effect.

The Aviation Maintenance Program is in a temporary location on the Gilroy campus, with plans to move to the San Martin airport in 2012.

To register, go to gavilan.edu, and click on "Apply and Enroll." New students must submit an application, take an assessment test, and complete on-line or in-person orientation prior to meeting with a counselor. Due to high demand, the process may take seven to 10 days, so students are advised to get started as soon as possible. Fees are $36 per unit for California residents.
