CHP Says 1 Of 2 Cars, Possible Driver Connected To Fatal Hit-and-Run Found

A 25-year-old man was killed near Gonzales, and two vehicles were reported leaving scene.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA – Authorities have found one of two vehicles wanted in a fatal hit-and-run collision north of Gonzales in Monterey County last week, California Highway Patrol officials said Monday.

They have also tracked down a possible driver, a Salinas woman, in the Tuesday collision that killed 25-year-old Texas resident Cody Austine Hillock, CHP officials said.

Officers responded to a report of a collision on Foletta Road north of Alta Street around 9:15 p.m., according to the CHP.

Arriving officers found the pedestrian, later identified as Hillock, suffering from major injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said.

Investigators are looking into where the pedestrian was when the collision occurred, according to the CHP.

A Hummer H2 and dark-colored sedan struck Hillock and fled before officers reached the scene, CHP officials said.

Investigators haven't ruled out drugs or alcohol as possible factors in the collision, according to the CHP.
