City Council Preview: SVMS Pool and Designated Smoking Areas
The council will also motion to approve an application for architectural and site approval.
The has a number of issues to tackle during its 6 p.m. meeting tonight, including hearing from a contingency of supporters for the pool.
Close to 80 community members to present two petitions to the council, one signed by the students of SVMS and the other by community supporters who wish to see the council and come to an agreement on how to pay .
The council and the GUSD , according to GUSD board member Domingo Payne, thus leading to its scheduled demolition in early July.

Under unfinished business, the council will motion to adopt a resolution approving an application for architectural and site approval on the corner of Leavesly Road and Forest Street. The council had previously approved their application for a site review during their May 21 meeting with a 5-2 vote.
The council will also move on an ordinance that will regulate smoking in city-owned parks. If passed, the ordinance will establish designated smoking areas within each park and prohibit smoking outside of these areas. The restrictions would not apply to the Gilroy Golf Course, Gilroy Gardens and Christmas Hill Park during the Garlic Festival.

A resolution of the council, if also passed, will designate certain park areas as permissible smoking areas. The ordinance would also allow the City Administrator to temporarily permit or prohibit smoking in designated smoking areas during special public or private events.
Other items from tonight’s agenda include:
- During the public hearing portion of the meeting, the council will hear a request for continued residential development housing exemption on property in the Downtown Gateway District. The exemption request is for 60 mixed-use units, known as the Eleventh Street Commons.
- The council will motion to approve an amendment to the single tenant lease agreement between the city and Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park, Inc. to extend the park’s lease term until February 28, 2015.
- The council will motion to approve a memorandum of understanding agreement between the city and the Gilroy Police Officers Association for the period of July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013. The council will also motion to adopt the salary resolution approving salary schedules associated with the agreement.
