Coroner IDs Female Pedestrian Killed on Hwy 101 Near Salinas
The 32-year-old female tragically walked onto freeway into path of oncoming Chevy Silverado on Monday.

A female pedestrian struck and killed by a passing motorist Monday when she walked onto U.S. Highway 101 in Salinas has been identified as 32-year-old Asha Nibhyananban, according to the Monterey County coroner’s office.
Nibhyananban, a resident of Salinas, was a passenger in a vehicle that had pulled over to the southbound shoulder of Highway 101 at Boronda Road shortly before 8 p.m. Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

She then exited the vehicle, walked onto the highway and was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck heading south in the middle lane, the CHP said.
The woman died at the scene.

CHP officers interviewed the drivers of both vehicles after the accident, which remains under investigation, officers said.
The CHP found no evidence of alcohol or drug use by the driver of the Silverado, according to officers.
