The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) brought $5.7 million into the county last year in tax refunds. That’s a lot of money into the local economy. Unfortunately, about a quarter of those who qualify don’t apply for it. Nationwide data also shows that 67 percent of those who quality for the EITC are using paid preparers. The EITC can mean a $5,666 refund to families with three or more children.
