Free 'Lunch & Learn' For Kids Launches This Summer At Gilroy Library
Nutritious meals AND fun, educational activities will help keep the young ones occupied this summer!
GILROY, CA – “Lunch at the Library,” Santa Clara County Library District’s new free lunch-and-learn summer program soon will begin at Gilroy, Morgan Hill and San Martin locations.
Sponsored by the Silicon Valley YMCA with support from the Santa Clara County Library Foundation, Friends of the Cupertino Library and Second Harvest Food Bank, “Lunch at the Library” provides free nutritious meals and educational activities for all youth under 18 at Morgan Hill Library, Gilroy Library and with the Bookmobile at San Martin Lion’s Club during the summer months.
“Summer is such an important time for kids to take part in engaging activities that not only exercise the body but also stimulate the mind. This isn’t easy to do on an empty stomach," Mike Wasserman, SCCLD Joint Powers Authority Board Chair and County of Santa Clara Supervisor said.

"Over the summer months, we want all of our local kids to take part in as many educational programs, resources and fun activities as they can at the library. But full minds need full tummies to help get through the day. By ensuring that children receive nutritious meals even when school is not in session and providing these meals in a safe and positive environment with access to books, interactive learning resources and engaging educational activities throughout the summer, we’re hoping to make a lasting impact on the summer learning experiences of local children.”
The new SCCLD “Lunch at the Library” will be offered at three different locations: Gilroy and Morgan Hill libraries and a special SCCLD Bookmobile stop.
