Scammers posing as Gilroy Police Department officers are calling residents claiming there are issues with their Social Security numbers.
GILROY, CA — The Gilroy Police Department has issued a scam alert amid multiple reports of residents receiving fraudulent phone calls.
Scammers posing as GPD officers are calling residents claiming that there are issues with their Social Security numbers, police said.
They are claiming to have arrest warrants are demanding payment or attempting to obtain detailed personal information over the phone.

“There have been reports of scammers pretending to be officers from the Gilroy Police Department notifying residents that there are issues with their Social Security number,” the GPD said in a statement.
“In some cases they actually spoof the phone number to GPD.”

The Police Department is asking that the public be aware that no law enforcement agency will never demand payment over the telephone and that if ever in doubt they should hang up and call its main number at (408) 846-0350.
