Gilroy Selects Interim City Administrator

The Gilroy City Council has selected a new interim city administrator, according to city officials.

Ed Tewes, 65, a former Morgan Hill city manager, will replace the current administrator Tom Haglund, who will leave his post later this month, according to city officials.

Tewes retired from the Morgan Hill position in 2012 after serving in that position for more than 13 years. Tewes has also worked as the city manager of Modesto in Stanislaus County from 1991 to 1999. Before that, he served as the city manager for the city of Clovis in Fresno County, city officials said.

“I have known and worked with Ed over the years and believe that he has both the professional experience and knowledge of South County issues that will be an asset to the city during this interim period,” Gilroy Mayor Don Gage said in a statement.

Haglund, who has been the city manager since 2008, is leaving the position to assume duties as the general manager of the Tuolumne Utilities District, according to city officials.

“Ed Tewes will serve Gilroy well and will continue the work of carrying out the City Council’s action agenda and vision for the community. He has very successfully collaborated on many issues of mutual interest to both Gilroy and Morgan Hill over the years,” Haglund said in a statement.
