Gilroy Swimming Pool Fate Uncertain
The pool at South Valley Middle School will have to sit idly a bit longer as the Gilroy City Council discusses its options.

The fate of the swimming pool at South Valley Middle School has yet to be decided.
the Gilroy City Council was poised to make a decision on the pool, at least according to the meeting agenda, but the decision was deferred.
According to the Gilroy Dispatch, the council voted 4-1 to put off a deicision "to give them the opportunity to discuss how much they could contribute to the $621,850 estimated price tag to fix and operate the pool for one year."

Councilman Peter Arellano was the lone dissenting vote, opining that he wanted some sort of commitment from the city at the meeting, much like his one dissenting vote when the council made a similar decision regarding the softball field at Sunrise Park in September.
The pool, which is badly in need of repairs, has been a hot issue for months in Gilroy. At one point over the summer, it seemed all but doomed until the council saved it on a 4-3 vote.

Although the repair estimate of over $600K is the number the city is working with, the Gilroy Unified School District quoted repairs at under half that price.
The next public discussion of the fate of the pool has not yet been scheduled.
