Girls, 8 and 6, Made Up Abduction Attempt By Man With Long White Hair, White Beard and Rose Tattoo: Police

The sisters reported to authorities that the described suspect tried luring them into a car at the Monterey Library. (Breaking)

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA – A case in which two children reported that someone tried to abduct them at the Monterey Public Library on Monday afternoon turned out to be a hoax, police said today.

The children, who are siblings, told officers that a man tried to lure them into his parked car at the library located at 625 Pacific St., police said.

The pair claimed they left the library and went roughly three blocks away to Monterey High School, where they reported the alleged encounter to a campus staff employee, according to police.

Investigators began looking for a middle-aged Hispanic man with white, shoulder length hair and a white beard, a rose tattoo on his neck and wearing rings and bracelets on both hands. The "suspect" also was supposedly driving a newer model white coupe toward Larkin Street, with possible black graphics on the door panels and damage to the interior seating.

Further investigation showed the encounter never happened, police said.

The children, ages 6 and 8, made up the story and didn't understand the serious nature of the alleged offense, according to police.
