Heads Up If Planning to Take Hwy 1 South Today
Mud and rock slides have closed stretch between Monterey and San Luis Obispo.

A portion of state Highway 1 is closed in Monterey County is closed because of rock and mudslides, Caltrans officials said today.
The highway is closed from Ragged Point in north coastal San Luis Obispo County to the Coast Gallery.
As of 7:50 a.m., Caltrans says the closure extends from mile marker 72 in San Luis Obispo County to mile market 42 in Monterey County.

Crews are currently assessing damage and initiating a cleanup effort.
Caltrans says it does not have an estimate of the time when the road will open. Highways 68, 101 and 46 are alternate routes to Big Sur and Ragged Creek, Caltrans officials said.
