King of the Blues Finals Kicks off Gilroy's weekend
A blues guitar competition, a benefit concert, a get together for Gilroy madres, a different kind of pet adoption event and a weekend celebration of a California magazine are our suggestions to Get Out in and around Gilroy this weekend.

Why Go:Β Guitar Center will host the store finals of the fifth annual King of the Blues competition. Contestants are trying to be one five finalists at the King of the Blues finals at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, where they will perform for a panel of celebrity judges and compete for more than $50,000 in prizes.

Why Go: Usually pets put up for adoption are dogs and cats. But the Humane Society of Silicon Valley reminds us there are more animals out there that need our help. They invite you and your children to come out and meet the variety of birds and bunnies they are sheltering and think about taking one of them home.

Why Go: Local music teacher Andoni Bundros has put together a local music series of Saturday concerts. This time, the concert will feature Gilroy musician Tomas Carrillo and San Francisco musician, J.J. Schultz.

Why Go: Las Madres of Gilroy is going all out for this brunch with a Mad Hatter theme. Maybe we are still thinking royal wedding, but we are definitely thinking hats. So wear your favorite hat and join other moms and moms-to-be.

Why Go: This is Sunset Magazine's annual celebration and this one is set to be a winner. The weekend will include cooking tips from celebrity chefs, like Rick Bayless, Traci Des Jardins and Candace Nelson; a look atΒ the Safeway Outdoor Kitchen,Β four daily wine seminars,Β "make it your own" with workshops looking at things you can do as diverse as keeping backyard chickens or making your own home brew, and more, including live music.
