Man Killed In Hollister Crash Is Identified

A 32-year-old man who crashed a car outside Hollister and died at a Salinas hospital last week has been identified.

HOLLISTER - A 32-year-old man who crashed a car outside Hollister and died at a Salinas hospital last week has been identified as Ivan A. Gutierrez, according to the Monterey County coroner's office.

Gutierrez, a Hollister resident, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche that overturned on Santa Ana Valley Road on June 16 around 9:10 p.m. and died of his injuries the following afternoon at Natividad Medical Center, California Highway Patrol officials said.

He was heading west on the road along a left curve near Rodeo Drive, made an unsafe turn and ended up in an eastbound lane, CHP officials said.

The vehicle flipped over and Gutierrez was ejected, CHP officials said.

Emergency crews gave the 32-year-old man medical attention before he was transported to the hospital with major injuries and was pronounced dead around 3 p.m. on June 17, according to the CHP.

Investigators believe alcohol played a role in the crash, CHP officials said.
