Monterey County Fire Threatens Over 100 Homes

MONTEREY COUNTY - A wildfire that has burned 3,000 acres in southern Monterey County is threatening about 120 homes and causing mandatory evacuations, sheriff's officials said Sunday.

Sheriff's deputies, along with Cal fire officials, have completed evacuating residents on Reliz Canyon, Monroe Canyon and Pine Canyon roads, as well as Elm Avenue, according to sheriff's officials.

The fire was first reported Saturday around 2:30 p.m. west of King City, near Fort Hunter Liggett and the Los Padres National Forest.

Crews from Alameda County, Hayward and Fremont fire departments are assisting Cal Fire officials with the fire.

An evacuation center has been established at the Lutheran church at 205 Canal St. in King City.

Additionally, the SPCA is assisting with animal evacuations, sheriff's officials said.
