On Saturday, Be a "Face of Gilroy" for Just Five Cents

Photographer Jenny Pariseau captures Gilroy through the faces of the people she spots downtown. On Saturday May 14, at 2 p.m., she'll be on Monterey Street taking her signature photos.

Last year, when Gary Walton challenged Jenny Pariseau to take photographs of people on the street in downtown Gilroy, he told her, "Don't take photos of buildings or inanimate objects. Just take photos of people. The people make up downtown Gilroy."

Pariseau caught some Gilroyans by surprise but her images show a thoughtfulness that makes passersby stop and take a second glance.

From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, Pariseau will be near the corner of Monterey and Sixth Streets again taking her signature black-and-white photos. The cost to have your photo taken by Pariseau? A mere five cents.

Walton, who enlisted Pariseau to take the photos, Β says, "I saw an architect in Portland with a sign that said, 'Architecture, 5 cents.' He earned 35 cents that day but found seven prospects for serious jobs."

"I have a stand that reminded me of Lucy's booth in the Peanuts comic strip. It's unexpected. Plus it's fun to charge just five cents."
