Registration Open For Upcoming Golf Tourney For Child Advocates Of Silicon Valley

Hit a hole-in-one and win a Dodge Challenger! The fundraising event is in Los Gatos at La Rinconada Country Club.

Child Advocates of Silicon Valley’s 10th Annual Golf Tournament will be held Monday, August 31, from 9:00 am – 8:00 pm at La Rinconada Country Club in Los Gatos.

The annual event raises funds to recruit, train and support Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) to work one-on-one with foster children in the Santa Clara County dependency system. Since 1986, Child Advocates has served over 15,000 children with the support of 10,000-plus community volunteers.

The golf classic was started 10 years ago by Walter “Skip” Shaw and Bill Hanneman. They wanted to raise money for Child Advocates and share their love of golf with friends and colleagues.

“It’s turned into quite an event and 10 years is a pretty significant milestone,” says Jeff Richardson, former board member and golf committee member of Child Advocates.

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. with a putting contest leading the days’ festivities, a shotgun start at noon, and on course activities including a hole-in-one contest where you can win a Dodge Challenger courtesy of DGDG.

A silent and live auction will round out the event. Attendees can bid on anything from a Cabo San Lucas resort vacation, to a Santa Barbara sailing trip, to an instant wine cellar with 12 rare wines. All proceeds from the event benefit foster children in Santa Clara County.

“CASAs are a powerful voice for children in foster care, ensuring that a child’s emotional and educational needs are met,” Scussel explains. “Less than 60% of children in foster care in California graduate from high school. But with a CASA in their life, 93% of our Santa Clara County foster youth complete high school and a majority of those graduates continue their education after high school.”

Tickets are $400 per person to play in the tournament, and a foursome is $1,600. If you’d like to attend the dinner portion of the event, you can purchase a ticket for $75.

About Child Advocates of Silicon Valley

Child Advocates of Silicon Valley recruits, trains and supports Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) who serve the needs of children in the foster care system by providing a powerful, independent voice for the child. These dedicated community volunteers spend time with a child and become a trusted friend, mentor, and consistent adult presence. They work with foster parents, teachers, social workers, counselors, and others to build a complete picture of the child’s life and needs.
