Santa Clara County Seeks Public Input On Jail
County Supervisors Joe Simitian and Otto Lee demanded an investigation of how the sheriff's office runs the jail earlier in August.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA —Santa Clara County will host another public discussion on the county jail this week.
The county is partnering with the W. Haywood Burns Institute to hold a community discussion on "whether a new jail replacement facility is needed, what type of facility it should be, and alternatives to incarceration."
The Burns Institute is a Black-led national nonprofit "working to transform the notion of what justice means in a country with the history that we share."

The session will be Friday, August 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose. Two other virtual sessions were held in July. Community input will be shared with the county Board of Supervisors.

The supervisors called on the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office to release information to the public about Andrew Hogan, an inmate who sustained a traumatic brain injury while being 8. transferred between jails in 2018.
