Woman, 19, Arrested In Connection With Murder of Gilroy Man

Police said the female was one of two captured in a store video using the deceased man's credit card.

A 19-year-old female was arrested in connection with last week’s murder of a Gilroy man, Gilroy police announced today.

Gabriela Bernice Ortiz of San Jose was arrested for suspicion of homicide in the death Robert Heiser, but investigators are following up on leads and “have reason to believe” that others may also be involved, police said in a statement.

Heiser, 56, was found dead Feb. 16 at his home on the 1400 block of Bay Tree Drive. Two days later detectives released surveillance video from an East San Jose store of two women reportedly using his credit card.

Police said Ortiz is one of the woman in the video, and that she “may have participated in other similar crimes in other Bay Area cities.”

Ortiz was booked at the Santa Clara County Jail on suspected homicide charges, and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.

The Gilroy Police Department thanked media outlets and concerned community members whose tips helped lead to the identification of Ortiz.
