Woman Run Over, Killed By Pickup At Hwy 101 Exit
BREAKING: The victim reportedly was crawling across the West Laurel Drive on-ramp near Salinas when hit, CHP said.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA – A woman died when a man driving a pickup truck ran her over this morning in Salinas, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The collision occurred at 6:22 a.m. on the northbound on-ramp to U.S. Highway 101 from West Laurel Drive, Sgt. Robert Lehman said.
The driver of a Chevrolet Silverado was just beginning to accelerate on the on-ramp in the rain and darkness when he saw something in the road.

He didn't know what it was and applied the brakes, but could not stop in time, Lehman said.
The woman was crawling across the on-ramp when she was hit.

Lehman said the truck driver was not speeding and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Lehman said there's a good chance the woman was a transient because there is a large transient population in the area. The woman has not been identified.
