“Crazy For You,” the drama department’s spring musical, is based on the life of Polly Baker, a strong-minded, witty, small town girl, who was raised by her father after her mother died. The play will be performed in the H.K. Baird Theatre March 25-29, with tickets sale beginning March 17. Tickets are $10 for students, $12.50 for adults, and $15 for preferred seating.
Many thespians will be partaking in their own ‘Senior Night’ since this musical will be the last time that most seniors will perform on the H.K. stage. Natalie Johnston, Natalie Jansen, Ryan Harberson, Tommy Stanley, Nick Bratcher and Caitlin Carino are seniors who have been performing on the H.K. Baird stage since the 7th grade and are already nostalgic because “Crazy” will be their last high school performance.
Caitlin Carino, senior and female lead, stated, “The memories we’ve created throughout the years are memories we are fortunate enough to cherish.” She added, “It’s surreal that this will be our last performance because a lot of us have grown up on this stage.” Caitlin, who auditioned without knowing what role she would be casted for, was happily surprised that she was called back to audition for the lead role. Fortunately, Caitlin found many similarities within herself and her character that make it the role easy for her.

Polly Baker, played by Caitlin, grew up in the small town of Deadrock Nevad, surrounded by boys. Polly developed a strong, feisty, and stubborn character, until she falls in love with a city boy. “My character is a lot like me, and in some ways she even inspires me,” stated Caitlin. “I really enjoy being able to portray Polly.” Polly Baker was always set in her own ways until she meets Bobby Child, son of a wealthy New Yorker banker, who wishes to pursue a career in dancing.
Bobby Child’s mother struggles to keep Bobby from dancing. She would like him to work at the bank, a respectable job. Despite his mother’s desires, he follows his passion, which allows him to meet Polly Baker. Nick Bratcher, who plays Bobby, expressed his connection with his character, “I feel like before senior year I couldn’t have connected with Bobby as much as I do now. I’ve learned that I’m happiest when I’m singing or just being involved in music. He and I understand each other in that respect.”

As both Nick and Caitlin prepare to give their last performances, they hope that they will look back with a sense of pride on all the time and effort they have put in. They know that COHS drama is a stepping stone to bigger things.
