Glendora Again Named 'Playful City USA'

City honored for its efforts to promote the cause of play.

For the third year in a row, Glendora has been designated as "Playful City USA," officials announced Tuesday.

Glendora is one of the over 200 cities nationwide that was honored by non-profit organization KaBoom! for its dedication to play by providing many opportunities to be active and healthy, despite budgetary issues that make it difficult to do so.

"We're very proud in Glendora of our wonderful parks and recreational opportunities," said Joe Santoro, Glendora mayor.

The city was honored for its creative commitments to the cause of play and the initiatives developed by staff and city leaders, such as the Adopt-a-Park program, a new play area at South Hills Park and the city's first dog park.

KaBoom! uses "Playful City USA" to encourage cities and towns to share creative ideas, concepts and programs in an effort to increase opportunities for children to play.

"An extreme misconception exists in our country that play among children is a luxury when, in fact, it's an absolute necessity," said Darrell Hammond, co-founder and CEO of KaBoom! "Glendora refused to adhere to the status quo and realized all children deserve a municipal commitment to the cause of play."
