Applications are now available for a five-day Leadership Academy for students who have completed fifth grade in the Glendora or Charter Oak School District. The purpose of the Leadership Academy is to train and inspire young children to become leader in their community and to teach them the skills necessary to do so.
The Leadership Academy will be held Monday through Friday, June 3-7 from 9 a.m. to noon at the United Methodist Church located at 201 E. Bennett Avenue in Glendora. The program is not affiliated with the church. Information was distributed through the Glendora School District and can be found on line at the Kiwanianne website, www.glendorakiwaniannes.org.
To enroll students, parents should download the application form on the Kiwanianne website, complete the application form and mail it with a $25 check by May 1. Only 36 children will be accepted for the program. For more information, call (626) 963-6179.
The program includes sessions on leadership vision, integrity, responsibility, public speaking, and how to counter bullying. Students will also engage in craft projects and team building exercises. The program is sponsored by the Glendora Kiwaniannes with partial funding from the Arsalyn Project which is part of the Ludwick Family Foundation.
This is the third year the Glendora Kiwaniannes have sponsored this summer leadership program for children. “Many of the children who leave the program run for student body or club offices. The skills they learn at the Academy prepare them to be a leader,” said Pat Rasmussen, chair of the program.
