Calling All Parents, Guardians of Cabrillo Unified School District Students ...

Applications are currently being accepted for the Measure S Bond Citizens' Oversight Committee for the Cabrillo Unified School District.

The Cabrillo Unified School District is currently accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Measure S Bond Citizens’ Oversight Committee (COC) in the category of “a parent or guardian of a student currently enrolled in the district.”

The purpose of the COC is to inform the public concerning the expenditures and uses of the district’s bond measure revenues to ensure all uses are consistent with the voter approved projects.

The COC will determine its meeting schedule for each year, but is required to hold regular meetings. The COC will produce an annual report to the public concerning its findings. This report will be presented to the Governing Board and posted on the COC webpage.

Members of the COC must either live or work within the CUSD boundaries. The configuration of the COC is embedded in the State Constitution and must be convened with representation as follows:

1. An active member of a business organization.

2. An active member of a senior citizens’ organization.

3. An active member of a bona fide taxpayers’ organization.

4. A parent or guardian of a student currently enrolled in the district.

5. A parent or guardian of a student currently enrolled in the district and who is an active member of a parent-teacher organization such as a PTA, PTO, or Site-Council.

In addition, the COC will contain an additional two members as defined below:

6. An at-large member who lives within the CUSD boundaries.

7. An at-large member who represents another organization that is active within the CUSD boundaries.

No employee or district official may be a member of the COC. In addition, no vendor, contractor, or consultant of the district may be a member of the committee. Any applicant who is related to, or has a business relationship with an employee, official, vendor, contractor, or consultant of the district must disclose this information when applying. Members of the COC serve for a two year term and may serve up to two consecutive terms. The current term shall expire on June 30, 2014.

Applications will be reviewed by the Superintendent and senior management. Staff will recommend a slate of applicants to the Board for their review and consideration for approval. The Governing Board will review all applications and shall make the final appointments. Applicants will be notified of their status following action by the Board.

Applications may be picked up in person at the district office located at 498 Kelly Avenue in Half Moon Bay or by accessing the COC webpage by clicking here. Applications will be accepted through Noon on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.

For additional questions, please contact Dr. Elizabeth Schuck who is serving as the facilitator for the Citizen’s Oversight Committee. The phone number for the district office is 712-7100.

The Cabrillo Unified School District Board of Education is also calling for candidates to fill one vacancy on the Citizens’ Measure E Oversight Committee (COC).

The application deadline is 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013. The vacancy represents a parent of a student currently attending the District.

The purpose of the Oversight Committee is to inform the public at least annually in a written report whether the tax dollars that are generated by the parcel tax measure (Measure E) approved by Coastside voters on June 8, 2010 are being expended in a manner consistent with the ballot language.

The application form and bylaws are now available on the District website http://www.cabrillo.k12.ca.us/CUSD_topic/parcel-tax-committee.html and at the District Office, 498 Kelly Avenue. Applications should be hand-delivered or mailed to:
