Donations for Food Bank Underway at New Leaf Community Markets
For every 10 pounds of Smart Chicken® sold, one pound will be donated during November.

For the 12th year in a row, New Leaf Community Markets offers the San Mateo County community an easy and delicious way to give and receive during the holidays. Throughout the month of November, for every 10 pounds of nutritious Smart Chicken poultry purchased at New Leaf Community Market at 150 San Mateo Rd in Half Moon Bay, one pound will be donated to Second Harvest of Silicon Valley.
From November 1 through December 31, New Leaf will also be hosting its annual holiday food drive, helping customers donate to Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley at the register while shopping for their own holiday meals. New Leaf matches donations made on Giving Tuesday, December 3.
Last holiday season 2,845 pounds were donated to the food bank. New Leaf and customers also donated $7,548 through the company’s annual holiday food drive to area food banks, providing 30,192 meals. Since 2006 when New Leaf launched the program, the organic and natural grocer has donated nearly 29 tons of poultry to area food banks.

“We are so fortunate to have the support of organizations like New Leaf Market Community Markets, New Seasons Market, and Smart Chicken who share our belief that hunger is unacceptable,” said Leslie Bacho, CEO of Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. “We are working to ensure that everyone has access to the nutritious food they need to thrive. These donations will help us lift the burden of hunger for so many people this holiday season and all year around.”
Smart Chicken is made from 100% all-natural, humanely raised, vegetable grain-fed chickens that are raised without animal byproducts, antibiotics, or hormones. The poultry is processed using purified cold air instead of being chilled in non-potable communal water baths, which eliminates water absorption and cross contamination. The company maintains high standards for how the chickens are sustainably raised, transported, and prepared for market. Smart Chicken can be purchased in the meat case or as a rotisserie chicken from the deli at New Leaf Community Markets.
