El Granada Woman, 75, Attacked in Violent Home Invasion Robbery, Caretaker Arrested: Police
The woman says she awoke to someone placing a pillow over her head.

EL GRANADA, CA — A husband and wife duo is accused of attacking an elderly Peninsula woman in her home, and robbing her. The 75-year-old victim says she was sleeping when one of them placed a pillow over her head and tied her wrists together, police said.
According to the Det. Salvador Zuno with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, the violent incident happened just after midnight Sunday in the 200 block of Coral Reef.
"One of the intruders, whom the victim believed was a woman, demanded money," Zuno said in a news release. "When she declined to reveal the money’s whereabouts, the intruders ransacked the residence."

Ultimately, the suspects fled the house with an unknown amount of money, Zuno said. And though the victim never saw them because of the pillow over her head, she knew there were at least two of them-- and thought she may know who one of them was.
"The victim believed she recognized the female’s voice as belonging to her caretaker," Zuno said.

Sheriff’s detectives identified 38-year-old Zoranna Mapapalangi and her husband, 33-year-old Antonio Mapapalangi as suspects in the case. The husband was arrested first, in San Mateo, on Thursday morning, according to Zuno. The wife-- and caretaker of the elderly victim-- was nabbed Thursday afternoon in Daly City. Both were booked into the county jail on felony charges of robbery and burglary.
