Fast Charging Electric Vehicle Station Now Open at New Leaf Community Market

First fast charging station in Half Moon Bay at 150 San Mateo Rd.

Been thinking about going electric? Maybe now would be an ideal time if you live Coastside.

As of January 10, you can get your electric vehicle (EV) charged in the time it takes to do your shopping at New Leaf Community Market, if you have a fast charging EV! Many EV cars on the road today can be fully recharged in approximately 15 to 30 minutes.

New Leaf is hosting two fast chargers (Level 3) with CHAdeMO and CCS plugs, and one Level 2 charger in their parking lot at 150 San Mateo Road, Half Moon Bay. The public is welcome to utilize these chargers 24/7 with either a credit card for one-time use, or a network card with a monthly subscription plan available through www.evgo.com. The chargers will charge for up to 30 minutes per session.

The fast chargers are operational now. Starting in early February, the Level 2 charger will be operational. This charger will give drivers of vehicles with a J1772 port, 12 – 24 miles of range per hour (a full charge takes 4 hours on average). (Level 2 charges at 240 volts, 3.3 / 6.6 kW.)

The fast charging station at New Leaf, the first in Half Moon Bay, is owned and operated by EVgo, the nation’s largest network of public EV fast charging stations. New Leaf partnered with EVgo to provide a valued service to the Coastside community, encourage environmental sustainability, improve air quality, and help eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. “Environmental stewardship is one of New Leaf’s key values,” said Kate Halper, New Leaf’s Northern California marketing manager. “New Leaf is committed to offering customers choices that have the most beneficial impact on their health and the health of the environment. Since New Leaf was founded 30 years ago, it has been a leader in green initiatives,” she added.

New Leaf was an early leader in championing the buy local movement on the Central Coast, which reduces impacts on the environment by reducing transportation needs and carbon emissions. New Leaf was also the first Coastside retailer to develop a program that encourages shoppers to reuse grocery bags and gives financial support to local nonprofits working to protect the environmental. Through this program, named the Envirotoken program, New Leaf has donated more than $550,000 to environmental groups, and customers have reused bags over 6 million times, saving over 10,000 trees.

In addition, New Leaf is the first grocer in California to become certified as a B Corporation, meaning it is a for-profit business certified by the nonprofit B Lab that meets rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. To consistently meet the stringent certification standards, New Leaf tracks their impact on food waste, water usage, supplier sustainability, and other areas that affect environmental performance.
