Four Outstanding Coastside Volunteers Selected as Nominees for Service Above Self Award 2015
Four women from Half Moon Bay have been selected as the four finalists for the Service Above Self Award to be announced March 21st.

Four Coastside residents, June Baxter, Carol Ferguson, Judy Macias, and Naomi Patridge, have been named by the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay as nominees for the 2015 Service Above Self Award for their outstanding contributions to voluntarism on the San Mateo Coast.
2015 marks the fourth year for this award. Nominees will be honored at the Magic of the Coastside fundraiser evening on March 21st at the IDES Hall, and one of the finalists will be given the Service Above Self Award for 2015. These women exemplify voluntarism by their active participation and leadership in several organizations.
June Baxter, a long-standing member of AAUW, is committed to advancing educational opportunities for girls, and her contributions include setting up a school volunteer group for elementary schools and serving on a number of committees focused on providing scholarships and math and science learning opportunities. Carol Ferguson is another exemplary volunteer who gives her time and dedication to the Senior Coastsiders/Adult Day Health Center, the James Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, Coastside women’s Club, the Adopt a Family program of Coastside Hope, and the Johnston House Christmas Boutique. Coastsiders see Carol at fundraising events for Seniors, Seniors Night Out, Taste of the Coast, Senior Housing Habitat Day, and Pumpkin Festival. She has served as a Board Member and held a number of leadership positions with the Coastside Women’s Club. Her years of service span 16 years on the Coastside.
Judy Macias, a familiar name in Half Moon Bay as Founding Board Member of the Sonrisas Community Dental Center, is Founder and Co-Chair of Village of the Coastside. This visionary program follows the model of more than 140 Villages in the U.S. to establish a virtual village to help people “age in place.” Her leadership has also been instrumental in Sonrisas providing dental services to thousands of low-income residents since its founding in 2001.
