Jams! Jellies! Pickles! Become a UCCE Master Food Preserver Volunteer!

Training opportunity for those interested in become a University of California Cooperative Extension Master Food Preserver Volunteer

The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) invites adults interested in helping others learn about safe home food preservation to apply to train as a Master Food Preserver (MFP) volunteer. In exchange for extensive training on research based home food preservation methods from the University, UC Master Food Preservers offer volunteer services and outreach to the general public in San Mateo and San Francisco counties through public classes, community events, and newsletters.

Who Can Apply?

· Residents of San Mateo and San Francisco counties.

· Applicants must be available to attend the following 10 classes: Sundays from 9 am – 1 pm from March 20 through June 5, 2016. No classes will be held Sunday, March 27 (Easter) or Sunday, May 29 (Memorial Day weekend). All classes will be at Elkus Ranch Environmental Education Center in Half Moon Bay. Only one class may be missed and the content must be made up by arrangement with the instructor. The Food Safety class (March 20) is mandatory and cannot be made up.

· Applicants must be comfortable using a computer and accessing the internet. Quizzes and homework are online; class communication is via email.

· Bilingual applicants encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

· Attend one of our mandatory orientation sessions to learn about the Master Food Preserver Program, our community involvement, and your participation requirements. The meetings will be Sunday, February 7 from 9-10 am and Tuesday, February 9 from 4–5 pm at Elkus Ranch Environmental Education Center in Half Moon Bay. · Applications will be provided at both informational meetings. Completed applications are due by Monday, February 15, 2016.
