JAY AT MAVERICKS: And the Winner of Our Contest Is...
Announcing the recipient of a $100 gift certificate to Sam's Chowder House.
Back in January, Half Moon Bay Patch launched a asking our readers to predict the day that the Jay at Mavericks surf contest would be held.
The prize: a $100 gift certificate to use at Half Moon Bay oceanfront restaurant , generously donated by owners Julie and Paul Shenkman.
As you know by now, the answer to the contest was a trick question: The contest was not called this year due to a lack of big waves high enough for the world's top surfers to make their way over to Mavericks (though they were here for the in November).

We still wanted to give away the prize, though. So we blindly drew the name of an entrant (all entrants who guessed a date in the comment section of this announcing the contest were eligible to win).
And the winner is...Ooga Smith.
