Letter to the Editor: Coastside Land Trust Opposes HMB Development Plans

Group asking for signatures on online petition, included in this letter.

Dear Half Moon Bay Patch,

The City of Half Moon Bay is updating its General Plan and Local Coastal Plan. So far, the initial plans focus on removing barriers to development, including rezoning lands west of Highway 1 along the Coastal Trail.

After a year of work, Half Moon Bay city staff and private consultants presented three draft maps for comment. All show areas of change along the coastal bluffs, including right along the Coastal Trail. One of the three plans actually routes traffic from Highway 1 to the sensitive bluff tops to β€œShowcase the Coast,” and includes rezoning for mansions and new commercial development right along the Coastal Trail.

Luckily, the city has said that community feedback can change the direction of these plans. And this is why CLT is writing. It’s becoming clear that it’s important to have everyone speak up if you love our coastal trail and surrounding undeveloped open space.

The petition - see link below - will be delivered to the Half Moon Bay City Council by the petition coordinator on December 2nd. Coastside Land Trust wants the city to create and present plans that protect the undeveloped land and coastal trail that makes Half Moon Bay so incredibly special.

Please sign the petition to help!

If you don’t want your name listed publicly, that’s fine. You can sign anonymously and only the petition signature delivery file will contain your name.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
